At Green Country Ruff Riters, we’ve been doing weekly Virtual Write-Ins.
Since the majority of our members are sixty-five and older, and thus in the most vulnerable group, our last in-person meeting was March 14, 2020. The Patrick Lynch Public Library in Poteau, OK was officially closed due to Covid-19 the following Monday.
To keep the group involved, President Vinita Eggers suggested a Virtual Write-In on the next meeting day, April 11, 2020. This idea was greeted with overwhelming support by the members of Green Country Ruff Riters.
For that first Write-In we had six members who participated. We had an opening ice breaker question and then a question about our beginning word count. We began at 2pm sharp and continued on, with reminder on time, until 4pm sharp.
The group enjoyed themselves so much, they agreed to do a similar Write-In the following Saturday.
And the rest, as they say, is history.
Green Country Ruff Riters has been participating in Virtual Write-Ins every Saturday ever since.
Later Green Country Ruff Riters opened its Virtual Write-Ins to non-GCRR members as well.
We’ve had a steady turnout of about six writers every Saturday. And we plan to continue as long as necessary for the health of our members (and non-members).
If you are interested in joining us on Saturday from 2pm to 4pm CST, please send President Vinita Eggers a private message on Facebook Messenger.
Stay healthy and keep writing!
Have a great summer!
